Time and time again home and business owners use unregistered electricians for repairs as a cost-effective way to save money but the risk of a poor standard of work carried out by unregistered electricians can not only jeopardise your household’s safety, but it could also compromise the safety of hundreds, and even thousands, of people in larger commercial premises.
Electricians working for BPM have demonstrated that they meet the highest professional standards after earning accreditation to the nationally recognised NICEIC, and registering themselves for the NICEIC’s approved contractor scheme and domestic installer scheme.
What is NICEIC?
NICEIC is the National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contractors, which exists to ensure the safety and standard of electrical work across the country by reviewing the work and competency of its registered contractors.
In other words, they help home and business owners avoid cowboy electricians by putting their seal of approval on qualified electrical engineers you can really trust.
What is a NICEIC Approved Contractor?
NICEIC Approved Contractor is one of the several different accreditation schemes offered aimed at various areas of electrical expertise. Any contractor who has joined NICEIC’s register and meets Approved Contractor requirements can carry out general electrical installation works with their approval.
To gain NICEIC approval, contractors must demonstrate their up-to-date knowledge of BS 7671, the IET wiring standards, and electrical installation requirements used in residential and commercial buildings across the nation.
What is a NICEIC Domestic Installer?
While approved contractors are qualified to work with all property types, domestic installers work exclusively with residential properties.
This scheme is designed to confirm the engineer’s competency in Part P of the Building Regulations, which covers certain areas of domestic electrical work. As a domestic installer registered on a Competent Person Scheme (CPS), the Contractor can also self-certify the installation or repair themselves.
Benefits of using a NICEIC registered contractor:
- Safety and competence: Contractors registered by NICEIC are assessed regularly to ensure they are competent in meeting the relevant technical and safety standards, codes of practice, and rules of the Schemes they are registered to.
- Compliance with building regulations: Contractors registered to NICEIC are authorised to self-certify their work to the Local Building Control Body. This saves you time and money when undertaking work requiring notification under the Building Regulations.
- Platinum Promise and Complaints Procedure: Under its Platinum Promise, NICEIC also offers a guarantee to remedy any non-compliant work performed by any electricians who were formerly registered with NICEIC, provided that the original work was carried out within the period of last six years.
Registration with the NICEIC is a real badge of honour and a mark of quality. We advise all individuals, businesses, or organisations that they should always check that the service provider they are considering has NICEIC accreditation and also that they can prove it. You can also check if the NICEIC legitimately approves that Contractor via the NICEIC website’s “Find a contractor” page.
