One of the biggest worries people in the Bristol region have about switching to the use of renewables has always been the cost of it. This means that, if we keep this progress going, Earth as a whole is becoming more renewable despite the exponential increase in population, energy consumption through new technologies like AI, and individual increase in energy use that we need in our fast, dynamic landscape.
Why are so many people switching to solar?
The cost of harnessing the Sun’s energy for your Bristol home has reduced dramatically even in the last 20 years, turning the problem from a significant life-savings financial investment problem into one more like getting your boiler replaced – work will be taking place and with that comes costs of time and money for labour and parts, but the lower initial investment is likely to see sooner returns.

Will they make their money before they need to be replaced?
The question of whether or not solar panels will be worth it for you comes with a range of factors to consider, but primarily it’s a trade-off between initial cost and the amount you’ll save on energy bills over the lifetime of the panels. If the solar system wouldn’t survive long enough to return your investment, it wouldn’t be worth it!

You might expect a return on investment (ROI) in about 10 years time if it supplies enough electricity for everything you need, which is definitely possible if you’re set up well. This also doesn’t take into account how electricity prices tend to rise – when you wouldn’t have to spend any more money if you already have solar.
Predictions for how long solar panels last have recently improved, thanks to research performed in Germany concluding that solar panels tend to slow in their degradation over time, particularly in cooler climates like in the Bristol area. This means the amount of electricity your panels can generate will see less of a drop in its second and third decades vs its first.
So yes, these solar panels will pay for themselves – and probably for longer than you’ll expect.
