BPM Contracting Services has taken a significant step in enhancing workplace inclusivity by joining the Disability Confident employer scheme, an initiative aimed at encouraging employers to reconsider how they approach disability, and to take proactive measures in recruiting, retaining, and developing disabled talent
This prestigious scheme, developed collaboratively by employers and representatives of disabled people, is designed to be rigorous yet easily accessible, especially for smaller businesses. It offers a structured path towards becoming a Disability Confident organisation, with three progressive levels: Disability Confident Committed, Disability Confident Employer, and Disability Confident Leader
As a Disability Confident Committed employer, the first level of the scheme, BPM has committed to inclusive and accessible recruitment, communicating vacancies, offering interviews to disabled applicants, providing reasonable adjustments, and supporting current employees. This level also requires the implementation of at least one action to make a tangible difference for disabled people, such as offering work experience, apprenticeships, or internships
The scheme’s benefits extend beyond social responsibility. It helps businesses like BPM to tap into a broader talent pool, retain high-quality staff, reduce recruitment and training costs, and improve overall employee morale and commitment. This is achieved by challenging attitudes towards disability, increasing understanding, removing barriers, and ensuring that disabled individuals have opportunities to realise their potential and aspirations
By advancing to the next level, Disability Confident Employer, BPM will further its commitment by self-assessing its practices around two key themes: recruiting the right people for the business and retaining and developing its workforce. This level recognises employers who go above and beyond to ensure fair opportunities for disabled people
Joining the Disability Confident scheme underscores BPM’s dedication to inclusivity and equality in the workplace, positioning the company as a leader in the community and the business sector in fostering positive change towards disability.
