BPM is
now ISO 14001 Environmental Management certified, having recently undergone an
audit to ensure we meet and exceed our legal requirements when it comes to our
environmental management system.
ISO
14001 is the world’s most widely recognised environmental management system
(EMS) that provides businesses with a framework for implementing sustainable
practices. The framework covers wide areas such as the establishment,
implementation, maintenance, and improvement of an EMS.
What is ISO 14001?
ISO
14001 is a global and sector-independent standard for the introduction and
continual improvement of EMS in companies around the globe. As a worldwide
standard, it offers an effective framework for working towards the UN
Sustainable Development Goals by requiring organisations to:
- Establish an appropriate environmental policy
- Identify environmental aspects from an
organisation’s past, existing or planned activities, products, and
services, to understand their environmental impact
- Identify and adhere to relevant legal
requirements
- Identify priorities and set appropriate
environmental objectives and targets
- Establish a structure and program to implement
the policy, achieve environmental objectives and meet targets
- Facilitate planning, control, monitoring,
preventive and corrective actions, auditing, and review activities to
ensure both that the policy is complied with and the environmental
management system remains appropriate, and
- Be capable of adapting to changing
circumstances
What is an environmental management
system?
An
environmental management system helps organisations identify, manage, monitor,
and control their environmental issues in a “holistic” manner.
ISO 14001 helps guide businesses and organisations
on how to consider multiple aspects of the business, including procurement,
storage, distribution, service development & manufacturing etc., to reduce
its environmental impact. It also drives you to evaluate how you manage
emergency response, customer expectations, stakeholders, and your relationships
with your local community.
